I see it so clearly now.
With my last breath, I take it all in;
Hipsters astral project into a place between sleep and death
To dance with the stars.
I wonder, will they find the drifting corpses of us,
Who are lost?
What do you do when you go past the skies and there’s no heaven?
Will your God save your soul if you’ve taken it that far from its home?
Here, there is no sunset,
Only eternal light reaching out
Past, alongside, through eternal dark.
I lose my grip on a hand I should have held tighter,
Way back when, way before the sky singed through the earth,
And the earth through the sky.
Before the bodies, bodies and bodies
Of mothers who cried louder for their sons,
Than themselves.
I slip into the forever night, and
Its companion, an endless quiescence,
And I understand it all.
I see it so clearly now.

South Africa, as we know and live it, is a very fast-paced and complex place. All we’re ever
trying to do is keep up. Yet, in the moments when we aren’t, we look to the arts to keep us
tethered to all that is beautiful and true. My hope is to be a part of something that can document,
and create, more beauty and honesty through radical optimism and unbounded imagination.
